About Windows 7 System Volume Sizing
How do you plan for the disk partition size of your Windows 7 system volume? There are many factors need to be considered beforehand, let’s try to make a list here.
- Virtual memory
- System dumps
- Hibernate
- Applications (Program Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData)
- Windows system (winsxs, Installer, assembly, System32, SysWOW64, Microsoft.Net)
- Search index
- User profiles (C:\Users)
- MSOCache
I use a free tool called Free Disk Usage Analyzer to monitor my system volume, and come out the disk usage pattern for my personal reference.
Here is a good article about Disk Space from Engineering Windows 7 blog.
